Sino-US Relations

The Sino-US relations is one of the most important bilateral relationship in today’s world and for the 21st century’s international relations. For China, the relationship with the USA is the most important relationship with outside world. The complexity of the relations also means the it’s a academic challenge to students. The purpose of this seminar is to examine the history of Sino-US relations, and the current situation in this bilateral tie. The discussion will not only deal with the political and economic components in China-US relations, but also try to discover the historic, domestic and international constraints in this bilateral tie.

The seminar will begin with an overview of historical evolution of the Sino-US relations. The followed five sessions will discuss the various stages of the history of the Sino-US relations and ended at the end of cold war. Then, we will spend another seven sessions to evaluate the evolution of the Sino-US relations since early 1990s, the so called post-cold war era. The last session will try to find out some significant conclusion about the Sino-US relations, and to describe the picture of the relationship in the coming days. The first five sessions will be more history oriented and the second seven session will be more current-issue oriented.
