Comparative Politics
This graduate seminar will provide a detailed overview of the main theoretical debates and topics in the subfield of Comparative Politics. Students with an interest in Comparative Politics and Political Theory are strongly encouraged to participate. Because it is impossible to include every relevant text, the syllabus should be taken as a selection of seminal texts echoing some of the major debates within the sub-field. Students are encouraged to read beyond what is listed here, in particular when preparing for a presentation. The instructor will also be available to provide additional literature.
Note that this class is a seminar, meaning that the strength of the seminar depends on careful preparation of all attending. All students are expected to contribute to seminar discussions and prepare for this each class. Absences are to be completely avoided unless for emergency situations. At least some experience in social sciences (political science, sociology, anthropology, etc.) is recommended.
