The year of the rat 2020 has certainly been a turbulent one, which also means it has lived up to all expectations of a gengzi year (庚子年) according to Chinese astrology: every 37th year of the 60-year lunar cycle is prone to disaster and misfortune.

Tough as it has been, we have made it work and we are proud of all our brilliant China scholars at the Contemporary China Studies Program who beat the odds and joined us in their academic pursuits in such a challenging time.

We hope the Chinese New Year of the Ox 2021 will brings us a new sense of normalcy and will allow us all to study and work together again here in Beijing. Until then we wish you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous Chinese New Year of the Ox!

PS: Apply now to join our 2021 fall intake and become a future China scholar. We still have funding opportunities available for exceptional candidates!
